101 Toasts

We were briefed to create some fun Facebook Live content for Sainsbury’s, so pitched 101 Toasts; a live stream.

101 different pieces of toast, 101 toppings, and a voice over from the bloke from Come Dine With Me.

It went live around September when school was starting back, students were off to Uni and everyone was getting thrifty after summer.

This turned out to be a massive technical challenge and a fantastic lesson in shooting for live, with dress rehearsals and a finely tuned behind the scenes team. We kept Facebook in the loop with our plans and received their recommendations throughout the process. Because it’s social - and you can never rely on the audience to be watching with the sound on - we had little signs signalling special toppings and a ‘Turn sound on’ notification on screen.

We decided to capture all the chaos by including the assembling of each topping, with two food stylist’s hands in the frame throughout the video. The spills and mistakes added drama to the weirdly addictive repetition, and Dave Lamb did a fabulous job adding a very British comedy with his voice over.

On Facebook’s recommendation we added a countdown at the beginning of the video to allow time to gather viewers - if you want to view a snippet, the action starts at 05:30.
